VHOC offers a wide variety of group classes in various sports held at private locations throughout the San Fernando Valley. Classes include Obedience (Beginning Competitive, Open/Utility), Agility (Skills & Drills I & II), and Scent Work (Beginning, Continuing Nose Work).
Most classes are 6-week sessions with limited working teams per class (6-8 teams). Instructor approval or prerequisites may be required for some advanced classes. You do not have to be a member of VHOC to enroll in a class.

About the Trainer
Valley Hills Obedience Club, Inc. (VHOC) is the San Fernando Valley’s only AKC licensed obedience training club and an active member of the Southern California Dog Obedience Council. Founded in 1952, VHOC has provided training classes for over 50 years and currently offers instruction in the canine sports of agility, obedience, rally, and nose work, at a variety of levels, as well as low cost pet classes for the community. All of their instructors have years of experience and expertise in canine performance sports.
The club’s objectives are to sponsor and promote the training of dogs by offering a variety of classes, seminars, and other educational events, and to promote responsible dog ownership for the betterment of the community. They also hold and support obedience, rally, and agility trials and matches open to all dogs, including purebreds and mixed breeds, that are registered with the American Kennel Club.
VHOC offers a wide variety of group classes in various sports held at private locations throughout the San Fernando Valley. They also publish a monthly newsletter, VHOC Newsette, which features club events, member accomplishments, and current dog news.
Accomplishments
Valley Hills Obedience Club, Inc. (VHOC) is the San Fernando Valley’s only AKC licensed obedience training club and an active member of the Southern California Dog Obedience Council. Founded in 1952, VHOC has provided training classes for over 50 years. All of their instructors have years of experience and expertise in canine performance sports.
VHOC has a strong history in the Southern California Dog Obedience Council’s annual Top Dog Competition, winning first place in 2011, 2012, and 2013, and placing 3rd in 2016.
Olga Chaiko is a world-class agility competitor, UKI judge, and insightful instructor, involved in agility for decades. She was the 2006 IFCS World Champion and won the AKC National Agility Championship in 2009. She has been teaching for VHOC since 2015.
Patti Rovtar has extensive experience in dog sports, achieving Top 10 rankings in the American Rottweiler Club with her dogs Chili and Pippi. Her dog Chili placed 11th in Master’s Obedience at the AKC Obedience Classic. Pippi earned her obedience titles from Companion Dog through Utility in 7 months, achieved OTCH and OTCH2, and was the #1 Rottweiler in AKC Obedience for 2019, making the national list of Top 100 Obedience dogs for 2019.
Melissa Casanova has been training and working with dogs for over 20 years. She is a CNWI, NACSW trial judge, and a professional handler and trainer for Narcotics dogs and handlers.
Jinny Chow has been training dogs for more than 40 years and has trained and competed in agility, obedience, rally, barn hunt, fast cat, and scent work. She has studied with notable trainers and is the head trainer at Infiniti Dog Training.
