VonBernd K9 Training Center

VonBernd K9 Training Center offers individual, personalized training courses for all breeds and ages of dogs, from general obedience to personal protection and scent detection. All training packages include unlimited weekly training for a year.

The Basic Obedience 10-Lesson Package covers commands such as heel, turns, sit, sit and stay, recall, down, down and stay, extended sit and stay, extended down and stay, and place. It also includes 1-2 lessons for problem-solving or review. Training is individual, with distractions added in later lessons.

The Obedience and Problem Solving 1-Year program is ideal for puppies and dogs with behavior issues. It covers all basic commands and provides more time for problem-solving, addressing undesired behaviors, reviewing lessons, and building towards advanced off-leash obedience. Training is once a week for 30-minute individual lessons. Dogs must be up to date on vaccines (DHPP, Rabies, Kennel Cough, usually around 16 weeks) to start.

Personal Protection training focuses on instilling skills for dogs to protect their family in threatening situations, while maintaining their social and family-oriented nature. Not all dogs are suitable for this training. It includes weekly lessons for up to a year, starting individually and potentially moving to group settings for distraction desensitization.

Scent Detection training, including tracking and search & rescue, teaches dogs to detect specific odors like narcotics, explosives, missing people, or human remains. Similar to personal protection, not all dogs possess the necessary drives or temperament. Training packages offer weekly lessons for up to a year, starting individually and potentially moving to group settings. All dogs participating in training must be up to date on rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and Bordetella vaccines.

Pricing Summary

Financing is available for a minimum of $1000. Pet photography prices vary based on the number of animals, distance traveled, and session time. Training packages include unlimited weekly training for a year.

Accomplishments

Jake Skillett, the master trainer and owner/operator, began training animals at 11 years old. He certified a bloodhound for search and rescue at age 20 and later received his master trainer certification through an internship in Indiana, expanding his expertise to multiple disciplines. His experience includes training bomb dogs in Iraq for security, protection dog training in Slovakia, and civilian dog training across the USA.

Shelby Skillett, the Office Manager and Photographer, holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Kansas State University and assists with training and social media. Liz Henss is the groomer, with experience working with various dog breeds and adjusting her approach for each one.
