Home Protection training begins with a dog evaluation to determine suitability, followed by a tailored training regimen if the dog is a good fit. Personal Protection With On/Off Control also starts with an evaluation and includes the obedience package.
Specialized training options include Tracking – Search and Rescue, with certifications available for Area Search, Human Remains Detection, and Disaster Search. Narcotic Detection and Bomb Detection Dog Certifications are also offered.

“John is obviously an experienced trainer. His knowledge and insight into animal behavior is quite remarkable. John does not train our dog. John trains my husband and I to train our dog and then we train our dog. A unique and innovative approach which apparently is the basis for his Centers’ success. At the initial evaluation John took control of our dog and had him heeling at his command. A feat we did not think possible considering the unruliness and constant pulling we were enduring with him. John Holcomb, a former full-time law enforcement K-9 handler, trainer, and supervisor, brings extensive experience in police utility dog team training. He continues to train police dogs and provides personal protection dogs and training for homeowners, including a placement program to bond the K-9 with the family.
The center offers various dog training options and certifications, catering to service dogs, K9s for police departments or private industry, obedience training for family pets, and protection dogs. All breeds are welcome.
In addition to training, VonBernd K-9 Training Center LLC provides daily dog boarding services in Terre Haute, IN, where dogs can exercise in 16-ft dog runs. They also have well-trained K-9s for sale for personal or home protection, and are expecting French Bulldog puppies. Accomplishments
John Holcomb has 47 years of experience and has served as a full-time law enforcement K-9 handler, trainer, and supervisor, training numerous law enforcement K-9 teams. He remains active in training police dogs and has instructed on personal protection dogs.
He served as a Deputy Sheriff of the K-9 Unit in Indiana and has trained teams across America in man trailing and tracking, participating in over 800 K-9 emergencies and searches. His expertise has led to collaborations with federal and state law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Indiana State Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service. John is also an approved AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator (Evaluator number 108404).
