The training philosophy involves starting dogs on sheep to build a firm foundation before introducing them to cattle. Dogs should have basic commands such as down, stay, that’ll do, come, and the start of side commands before working with cattle.

A $200 deposit is required with registration to hold a working slot for the Cattle Camps. The balance will be due upon arrival at the camp.

Their dogs are actively used for everyday ranch chores, including gathering, moving, and sorting cattle and sheep, significantly reducing the need for human labor. W Lazy J offers Cattle Camps designed to teach participants how to train a dog to have quiet confidence on cattle, emphasizing a foundation built on sheep work before transitioning to cattle.
They take breeding seriously, health testing all dogs for genetic diseases and certifying their hips and elbows. W Lazy J is recognized as an ASCA Hall of Fame Kennel #206 and an ASCA Stockdog Kennel of Excellence, demonstrating their commitment to preserving the working Australian Shepherd.

How to Get Started!
Registration for the 2024 Cattle Camps opens on March 1st. A $200 deposit is required with registration to secure a working slot. A 2024 Camp Registration PDF is available for download.
