Walk A Pup offers several training programs tailored to different needs. The Polite Pup Program (PPP) consists of one-on-one private coaching sessions, starting with a virtual initial behavior consultation followed by in-person sessions at the client’s home or their Salem facility. This program focuses on foundation skills like attention, basic needs, trusted communication, name games, sit, down, target touch, puppy push ups, stay, recall, loose leash walking, “choosing to heel,” and place/mat work. Sessions are typically spaced about a week apart, building on successful skills and adding challenges like distance and distractions.

The “While You Work” Day Training program involves trainers working individually with the dog during the day, followed by private coaching transfer sessions with the owner. This program covers foundation basics, communication skills, generalization of behavior in various environments, and appropriate social skills.

Behavior Modification Programs are customized, individual programs designed for adolescent and adult dogs struggling with challenges such as fear, anxiety, reactivity, and aggression. These programs begin with a virtual Initial Behavior Consultation to assess the dog’s history, temperament, and behavior patterns, followed by an orientation on positive reinforcement and management practices. Subsequent in-person coaching sessions are provided with handout resources and unlimited email support.

Group Class Training is offered at Walk A Pup’s facility in Salem and Everydog Training Center in Danvers. Classes range from Puppy Beginner Basics to Advanced Adult Levels 1-4, with specialty clinics like Loose Leash Walking, Recalls and Proper Greetings, and Calm and Relaxation.

Play N Train Groups are a canine enrichment program that combines closely monitored free play with group and individual training sessions. Dogs are divided into big and small dog areas and grouped by play styles, with small group sizes (no more than 12 dogs and a 4:1 dog/handler ratio). Training time focuses on basic foundation skills, advanced exercises, sports, agility, nose work games, and enrichment activities, incorporating Pattern Games based on the Control Unleashes program and adhering to LIMA ethics.

Testimonials

“I can’t say enough good things about Walk-A-Pup. Their care for my dog and cat has been stellar! Their crew is so dependable and positive – we get a great note detailing each day’s adventure. We started with twice weekly walks for our rescue dog – what a great way to help a new family member become adjusted to his new neighborhood and socialized to the Salem tourist crowds. It’s been three years now and I’m so thankful. My favorite story is when I left our dog tied up outside a local restaurant while I picked up take-out – next thing I know along comes a class of 7th graders (25!) who I hear exclaim, ‘cute dog!’ then proceed to pat Mickey on the head, one by one, as I watched aghast through the window. Thank you Walk A Pup, he was a perfect gentleman!”
– Maureen Bullock and Mickey, Walk a Pup Customer

“After adopting our border collie Nell from a rescue in Tenn., we were looking for ways to break her out of her timid shell and build trust. Our veterinarian suggested Walk A Pup. From the first class, Nell opened up with Dan, and quickly learned how to sit, stay, walk well on a leash as well as a few ‘tricks.’ Nell was not a fan of car rides but when I told her we were going to ‘school,’ she would run to the door with her tail waving frantically! The best part of the classes though, was getting to know Nell’s personality and watching her have a good time and trust us. Dan also became an invaluable resource to us as new dog-parents; giving us tips to make adjusting at home easier and being available for any questions we’ve had since training ended. I highly recommend Walk A Pup for any dog parent. It doesn’t matter how much training your dog may need, everyone can benefit from some training classes with your pup and you may find you learn just as many tricks as they do!”
– Katie and Matt Katzman, Walk a Pup Customers

“Dan is an amazing trainer! One on one training is available as well as classes. We also use Walk A Pup for hour walks. The staff truly loves the dogs and treat them as their own. I can’t wait to try the play groups. Yana keeps everything organized and is very responsive. Best resource for pups ever! Very grateful for this group!”
