Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Equipment:

  • E-Collars

Webfoot Outdoors offers a comprehensive training program structured around a 3-segment seminar series: Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced. The Foundation seminar focuses on leadership, reading the dog’s state of mind, and basic building blocks like coming, staying, and proper introduction to birds and gunfire. The Intermediate seminar transitions to remote cues, stopping the dog remotely (whoa), field handling with body language, and honoring brace mates, introducing e-collar use at low levels. The Advanced seminar refines skills, transitioning to game birds, finishing steady training (steady to wing, shot, and fall), backing, and retrieving.

They also offer workshops, including “Early Education” for puppies (focusing on desire through birds and basic fundamentals) and “Trained Retrieve” (introduction to fetch and finished retrieve). The curriculum emphasizes developing a calm and confident dog’s state of mind using natural instincts and pack behavior. Training is customized to individual needs, ranging from puppy socialization and basic obedience to finished upland gun dogs and retrievers, with a focus on off-lead field work with live birds.

Testimonials

“Martha and Mark are some of the most experienced trainers in the business and have an amazing property to train bird dogs. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work my dogs with them.”
– Rob Otten

“Where do I begin to sing the praises of Martha & Mark and “Webfoot Outdoors” ? They came highly recommended so when I made the trip up I was ready and open to absorb whatever I could of their knowledge & experience. That I showed up with 3 different breeds and personalities anywhere else could have been a challenge but not for Martha & Mark who have an instinctual ability to personalize the training according to the needs of each dog. I stayed 3 weeks and left wanting more: I was learning so much on a daily basis and so were my dogs ! At the end of each day we all collapsed in euphoric exhaustion.”
– Irina Mangiere

“Webfoot, with the leadership of Mark and Martha, offers the finest training and dog care in Central New York. The facility is amazing with hundreds of acres laid out for dog training. We started using Webfoot a little over a year ago to get help with training our first hunting dog. They not only helped make our dog a better hunting dog, they made him a better pet and taught us how to be better handlers. They even helped adjust his diet ending a yearlong battle with intestinal issues. Whether you need training or boarding, there is no better place to go then Webfoot. Mark and Martha will make sure your dog is cared for like their own.”
– Sandra Melhouse Jackson

About the Trainer

Mark and Martha Gawron own and operate Webfoot Outdoors and Rimrock Kennels, specializing in training hunting dogs and providing related services. They offer a full spectrum of dog training, from puppy socialization and basic obedience to finished upland gun dogs and retrievers. Their philosophy emphasizes building a solid foundation with a “keep it simple” mindset, customizing programs to meet individual handler and dog needs. They focus on developing a dog’s calm and confident state of mind, utilizing natural instincts and pack behavior.

Their training aims to produce hard-working, steady dogs that perform off-lead in the field, locating game and retrieving birds. They provide exposure to live birds in natural hunting scenarios to build bold, cooperative hunting companions. Beyond training, they offer heated and well-ventilated indoor/outdoor boarding facilities, breeding, and stud services.

Mark has over 40 years of hunting experience and is a 34-year retired U.S. Army veteran.
