About the Trainer
Woof University, LLC is an ethical, experienced, and innovative dog training business located in the heart of South Carolina. Established in 2009 after years of volunteering in animal rescue, the university aims to save lives by keeping dogs out of shelters and in loving homes through good training.
They provide innovative classes with a strong emphasis on fun and camaraderie, helping dogs transform into confident, well-mannered companions. Woof University focuses on positive training methods, believing that positively trained dogs are less anxious, more social, and have a deeper bond with their owners. They offer education for both ends of the leash, helping owners understand and communicate better with their dogs for a more fulfilled relationship.
Dawn O’Cain, one of the key trainers, also runs a boarding kennel from her home.
Accomplishments
Dawn O’Cain is recognized as “The OG for Positive Training in The Midlands,” being the first to offer modern positive obedience methods in the area. She has over 40 years of dog training experience, including Therapy work, Search and Rescue, and titling several dogs in Competition Obedience. She co-founded the Greyhound Prison Program, taught inmates to train Greyhounds for adoption, and has experience in private dog rescue and as a Vet Tech. Dawn also breeds and shows Great Danes in Conformation.
Kelly Whittington is a “Behavior Nerd” and a Family Dog Mediator (FDM). She is the author of articles for students and is trained in working with Aggression in Dogs. Her dog, Maze, competes in FastCat, CAT, and Barn Hunt, and is training for Flyball and Agility, holding titles such as FDC CA FCAT CGC TKN FITB FTN RATN.
Lauren Gazella is a Licensed Vet Tech (LVT) specializing in emergency care. She took over teaching inmates in the Greyhound Prison Program. Her dog, Uno, earned the Canine Good Citizen title, and her dog, Enzo, is a blood donor and Canine Good Citizen. Lauren’s passion is teaching dogs to remain calm and relaxed for veterinary procedures.
