“I cannot say enough great things about the Woof University trainers. Our little rescue dog was about 4 years old when we got him and he was wild! … thanks to Kelly, Dawn, and the team, they provided the expertise we needed to reinforce the training. Their positive reinforcement approach has been very effective and the lessons are sticking!”

“After getting kicked out of PetSmart obedience classes, my hopes of certifying my Amstaff as a Canine Good Citizen were wrecked. But Kelly and Dawn at Woof University would not let us fail. … Woof University helped me pilot my boy through the CGC exam with flying colors!”

About the Trainer
Woof University, LLC is a dog training business based in Columbia and Lexington, South Carolina, that focuses on positive, education-based training for both dogs and their owners. They go beyond basic obedience to help owners build deeper communication and stronger bonds with their dogs, emphasizing a joyful, stress-free relationship. Their team includes experienced trainers like Dawn O’Cain, with over 40 years in positive training, and Kelly Whittington, a Family Dog Mediator trained in aggression and behavior. They offer group classes at two local facilities—Seven Oaks Park in Columbia and Tri-City Leisure Center in West Columbia—and provide resources like weekly guides and welcome materials for students. Their approach is rooted in reward-based methods, with no use of pain or fear, and they support dogs of all ages and backgrounds, including rescues and those with behavioral challenges.
They also offer specialized training for Canine Good Citizen certification, puppy socialization, and calming veterinary behaviors. Their trainers have backgrounds in therapy work, search and rescue, greyhound adoption programs, and competitive dog sports. Woof University is known for its supportive community, ongoing email assistance, and commitment to helping dogs stay in loving homes by resolving behavioral issues before they lead to surrender.
In addition to training, Dawn runs a home-based boarding kennel, and the team has deep ties to animal rescue and veterinary care, with one trainer being a licensed vet tech. They are not a grooming, walking, or pet store service, but their services are closely tied to improving dog welfare through education and positive reinforcement.
