Dog Training Methodology

The Cape Fear Dog Training Club offers classes for house manners and competition obedience, typically running for six or seven weeks. The Beginner Class focuses on basic good manners, including sit, down, stand, stay, and walking on a lead.

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program is a six-week class designed to ensure dogs are well-behaved in public and at home, culminating in the AKC Canine Good Citizenship test. This class requires basic obedience skills.

For those interested in dog sports, Rally Novice introduces participants to Rally Obedience, covering Novice level signs and competition rules. Rally Intermediate builds on these skills with advanced signs and strategies, requiring instructor approval. Competitive Training Classes include Beginner Novice/Novice, Open, and Utility levels, focusing on advanced obedience exercises like heeling, attention, retrieve, jumping, and drop on recall, with prerequisites for higher levels.

Additionally, the club offers Rally-Go-Round and Independent Training sessions for competitive obedience skills. These are opportunities for independent practice on rally courses or competitive obedience skills amidst distractions, with informal critique available.

Testimonials

“Class with the Cape Fear Dog Training Club is such a great experience! Instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and make learning fun for both my dog and I. I can’t wait to take another class!”
– Erica Goodpaster

“Best place in Fayetteville for dog training. The trainers are caring and knowledgeable and truly want to see you become the best dog owner you can be. Teach you that your not just there to train the dog but to train yourself as well.”
– Jamie Minns

“My dog and I recently completed the CGC class with Joan and what an amazing experience! Starting off I didn’t know if my 9-year-old stubborn beagle would make it through this class. But with Joan’s expert guidance and tips he passed with flying colors all the while making new friends and enjoying the ride! My dog is still the same sweet active boy he always has been but life at home has been much less stressful. Their training methods were firm but loving and got a great response whereas some previous trainers we used advocated shock collars. We are hoping to take more classes and any future dogs we have will also be trained at CFDTC :)”
– Morgan Varner
