Testimonials

We’ve been bringing our dogs to Charlie’s K9 Camp for over six years–basically since the moment we moved to Winston-Salem–and we can’t imagine trusting anyone else. From training and grooming to boarding and doggy daycare, their team has supported us through so many life transitions, including moving homes and welcoming our first baby.

What really sets Charlie’s apart is how much the staff genuinely cares. They know our dogs by name, celebrate their quirks, and consistently go above and beyond to make us (and them) feel like family. It’s such a comfort knowing our dogs are in loving, capable hands whether we’re gone for a few hours or a few days.

If you’re looking for a trustworthy, experienced, and compassionate team for your training, boarding, or grooming needs, we highly recommend Charlie’s K9 Camp!

Grace is an incredible trainer. She truly loves the dogs and knows what is best. The kennel staff is and has always been wonderful. All of our dogs love going there. One of our dogs actually jumped in Grace’s car to go home with her when she did a visit to our house.

Grace and Charlie were both wonderful! We just completed a modified 1 week train and board program with Charlie’s K9 camp. I was amazed with the progress that Grace made with our high energy, low attention span, GSP puppy! She took the time to train me when I picked him up and was extremely aware of what he needed as he grows up. She was very responsive with updates while we were away from our puppy. Thank you, Grace! We look forward to sending Porter for his off leash training when he gets older.

About the Trainer

Charlie’s K-9 Camp is a family-owned dog training, boarding, and grooming facility located in Clemmons, NC, founded by Charlie Holder, a former U.S. Army scout dog handler from the Vietnam War era, and now operated with his granddaughter Grace. They offer board-and-train programs for basic and advanced obedience, as well as behavior modification for issues like leash reactivity, fear aggression, jumping, and resource guarding. Their training approach is balanced, using all four quadrants of operant conditioning—mixing positive reinforcement with corrections—to tailor methods to each dog’s needs. They provide a 2-week intensive basic obedience program ($1,500) with a lifetime guarantee, and a 4-day Quick Start program ($650) that can be applied toward the full program. Dogs stay in private indoor runs with access to covered outdoor runs and enjoy supervised group play. The facility is licensed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and requires up-to-date vaccination records. Charlie has over 40 years of experience training dogs, and Grace brings a hands-on, compassionate approach, often providing updates during training stays. They also offer grooming, boarding, and specialty training like e-collar and detection work.

Clients praise the staff for their genuine care, consistency, and ability to handle high-energy and large breeds. The facility operates 7 AM–10 AM and 3 PM–5 PM Monday–Saturday, with Sunday closed, and is staffed nearly 24/7, unlike many kennels that leave dogs unattended on weekends.

They accept cash and credit/debit cards (Visa, Discover, American Express; Mastercard with a 3.99% surcharge) and require payment upon pickup. Cancellations require 96 hours’ notice for holidays and 48 hours for routine bookings, or fees apply.

Accomplishments

Charlie Holder has over 40 years of dog training experience, including service as a U.S. Army scout dog handler in Vietnam, where he worked with military working dogs. He is an active member of the Vietnam Dog Handlers Association. The business has trained dogs from across the Southeastern U.S. and has been operating since 2008 with a legacy of multi-generational training expertise.

How to Get Started!

Prospective clients must contact Charlie’s K-9 Camp by phone or email to schedule a consultation with Grace to discuss their dog’s specific needs, behavior issues, and program options. Vaccination records must be submitted prior to enrollment. A personalized training plan is developed before the dog arrives for board-and-train.
