The current price of a Strong springer spaniel puppy is $2,500.00 (with a $600.00 deposit) plus all applicable shipping costs if it is not picked up at the kennel. Shipping costs generally involve an airline approved crate, airline shipping fees, a required health certificate, and the round trip transportation to the airport.

David Jones, the owner, began his life-long career at the famed Saighton Kennels of North Wales as a young man, earning a respectable reputation for his training and dog-handling abilities prior to his arrival in America in the 1980s. He is a professional gun dog trainer and a tough, seasoned competitor in field trials, also hunting and selectively breeding his English springer spaniels.

The business operates from a spacious and modern kennel facility located on a large, privately owned, family ranch in South Texas, near the Gulf Coast. They work their springers throughout the six-month hunting season on waterfowl and traditional upland game birds. Strong Gundogs offers professional training exclusively for gun dogs and field trials, guided hunts, and sells English springer spaniel puppies.

David Jones has put forth a vigilant effort to preserve and continue the classic Saighton lineage and their hallmark traits in his own top-notch Strong Gundogs bloodline. He has worked tirelessly to achieve his goal of producing the highest quality dogs possible. In addition to his extensive experience with English springer spaniels, David has trained countless pointers, Labrador retrievers, working terriers, racing greyhounds, and trailing hounds.

He is also a certified National Sporting Clays Association Shooting instructor and established the National English Springer Spaniel Shooting Dog Championship. The kennel celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2021, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to the breed and training excellence.

Accomplishments

David Jones began his career at the famed Saighton Kennels of North Wales, earning a respectable reputation for his training and dog-handling abilities. He graduated from the Game Conservancy’s Gamekeeper Training Course at Fordingbridge in Hampshire, United Kingdom. He worked as an underkeeper at Carrog Shoot and Saighton Kennels, where he was assigned to handle Saighton springers, including Saighton’s Seeking, the main stud.

After relocating to Texas, David bred, trained, and developed his own line of Strong springers, achieving success in US and Canadian field trials, including winning field trials, finishing field champion titles, and placing at the US National Open Championship. Strong dogs achieved first and second placements for national high point dogs in 1986, and FC/CFC Strong’s Seamus was named second on the Top Sires list in 1989. David also competed on the pointer field trial circuit and in greyhound races. He has trained countless pointers, Labrador retrievers, working terriers, racing greyhounds, trailing hounds, and English cocker spaniels. He has served as a discerning judge for spaniel and pointer field trial competitions in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. David Jones is a certified National Sporting Clays Association Shooting instructor and established the National English Springer Spaniel Shooting Dog Championship.

Strong Gundogs has a prestigious reputation for producing field trial quality English springer spaniels. The kennel celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2021. FC CFC Braw Bairn of Suthron Glen, trained and handled by David Jones, was selected as a 2024 Bird Dog Hall of Fame inductee, having amassed 94 open points and becoming the 1983 National Hi-Point Dog. The breeding program has produced many notable field trial champions, including FC/CFTCh Strong’s Seamus, FC/AFC Strong’s Reflection of Light, FC/CFC Braw Bairn of Suthron Glen, and FC/AFC Strong’s River Ranch Delta.
