About the Trainer

About A Dog is a force-free dog training business in Los Angeles run by Alia, a certified trainer who works one-on-one with dogs and their people. Sessions happen in your home across Northeast LA neighborhoods like Eagle Rock, Silver Lake, Glassell Park, and Cypress Park.

Alia trains with positive reinforcement only, using rewards instead of fear or choke collars. Every plan fits the dog’s personality and home, and each session moves at the dog’s pace.

She got into training after volunteering at animal shelters, where she saw good dogs given up for behavior problems that training could have solved. She holds a Dog Obedience Trainer certification from Animal Behavior College and is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.

The name comes from the Nirvana song “About a Girl.” For Alia, it’s all about the dogs.

Accomplishments

Alia earned her Dog Obedience Trainer certification from Animal Behavior College and is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. She keeps learning through IAABC courses and assists with group classes around Los Angeles alongside her force-free mentors.

How to Get Started!

Call 971-806-6333 or send a message through the contact page with your name and your dog’s name. The first session covers your dog’s routine, your concerns, and your goals.

In Their Own Words

Their Training Philosophy

I believe dogs learn best when they feel safe, understood, and motivated to learn. My training approach is force-free and based on positive reinforcement, using rewards and encouragement to help dogs develop good habits and build confidence.

Rather than relying on fear, intimidation, or punishment, I focus on understanding the emotions and needs behind a dog’s behavior. Every dog is an individual, so I tailor my training to each dog’s personality, learning style, and home environment.

My goal is to help dogs and their humans communicate more clearly, strengthen their bond, and enjoy a happier life together.

What New Clients Can Expect

Our first session begins with getting to know you and your dog, understanding your concerns, and discussing your goals for training. I take the time to learn about your dog’s behavior, daily routine, environment, and any challenges you are experiencing.

Together, we identify practical steps that fit your dog’s needs and your lifestyle, using force-free, reward-based methods. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with your dog and how to encourage positive behaviors through everyday interactions.

Before we finish, you will have a clearer understanding of what to work on at home and how to move forward with a plan tailored to you and your dog.
