Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Positive Reinforcement Only
Equipment:
- ✓ Food Rewards
Board and Train is the core program: dogs stay on the private five-acre property and train throughout the day, with training built into walks, meals, play, rest and household routines rather than confined to a scheduled lesson. Adult programs begin at a three-week minimum, and five to six weeks is recommended for the strongest foundation. Puppies as young as 10 weeks can enroll in the two-week Puppy Starter, which covers potty and crate routines, socialization, handling, leash manners and foundational cues.
Training may include loose-leash walking, coming when called, sit, down, extended down-stays, waiting at doorways, calmer greetings and settling while the household carries on, plus work on jumping, barking, bolting, chewing and impulse control. Behavior modification for fearfulness, reactivity, growling and separation-related behaviors is handled case by case. Every program ends with an in-depth go-home session where the family learns to run the training themselves, followed by complimentary follow-up support.

Testimonials
“Robert is truly exceptional! His gentle temperament and positive approach make a significant difference. He took a neglected rescue dog, one that several other trainers suggested I should euthanize, and turned her into an obedient, well-mannered dog who listens and shows patience, giving her a second chance at a fulfilling life.”
– Salem’s owner
“Kenai is now an OFFICIAL THERAPY DOG, here in Chula Vist/San Diego. She passed the CGC test on the first try, she also passed the therapy dog testing on the first try… We had our first outing today, and she did wonderful. So many were impressed with her…even the president of the organization was very impressed with the way Kenai carried herself, especially with other adults and kids”
– Christine Walters
“Hello Robert, I just wanted to let you know that Milo is doing great! He is a well oiled-bulldozer and is no longer bashing the door – that was the hardest thing for him. Milo does his down stays for 40 min. every night and walks on the lead nicely. I don’t really need the lead, he is right by my side. I love that he will sit and stay until I tell him to come – where ever I am; and he lays down every time asked! I could not ask for a better dog thanks to you and your staff. Thank you!!”
– Linda Williams

About the Trainer
California Dog Training is a family business near Corona, California, where Robert Eimer has spent more than 30 years professionally training dogs. Robert is the only trainer. He personally evaluates, trains and oversees every dog, and the work is a three-generation family tradition that began when he started handling dogs at 14 in his mother’s training kennel. He and his wife established California Dog Training on their private five-acre Temescal Valley property in 2018.
Training is reward-based. Robert uses positive reinforcement, clear communication and consistent daily practice, without shock collars, e-collars or harsh corrections, an approach consistent with AVSAB guidance. Rather than running every dog through the same system, he adapts the pace, rewards and daily routine to each dog’s temperament, history and motivation.
The programs are Board and Train. Adult dogs stay a minimum of three weeks, with five to six weeks recommended for the most complete foundation, and puppies as young as 10 weeks can start with a two-week Puppy Starter program. Dogs learn loose-leash walking, coming when called, sit, down, extended down-stays and calm household manners, with training folded into walks, meals, play and rest rather than confined to scheduled sessions. Robert also has extensive experience with behavior modification, including fearfulness, reactivity, growling, separation-related behaviors and dogs with a bite history. Each case is assessed individually, and he recommends a program only when the training environment is a suitable fit for that dog.
Because the training property is also the family home, dogs get personal attention, room to exercise on five acres and real-life practice. Every program ends with an in-depth go-home session and continued support so the family can maintain the progress, and boarding stays are available afterward to dogs that have completed a training program. Families travel to the property from Riverside County, Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego and communities across Southern California.
Accomplishments
Robert Eimer has more than 30 years of professional dog-training experience, which began at about 14 years old when his mother moved from teaching Petco group classes to running her own training kennel. He has worked hands-on with thousands of dogs across breeds, temperaments and levels of behavioral difficulty, covering obedience, puppy development and complex behavior modification including fearfulness, reactivity and aggression. After two years away in a corporate career he returned to training full time, and in 2018 he and his wife established California Dog Training on their five-acre Riverside County property. He remains the only trainer, personally handling every dog from the first evaluation through follow-up.

In Their Own Words
Their Training Philosophy
Dogs learn best when training is clear, consistent and rewarding. We use positive reinforcement to teach dependable behavior without shock collars or harsh methods. Every dog has a different temperament, history and motivation, so Robert adapts the training to the individual dog rather than forcing every dog through the same system.
A Tough Case They Solved
Salem was a neglected rescue whose behavior had become so difficult that several trainers reportedly suggested euthanasia. Robert focused on building trust, teaching clear expectations and reinforcing calm, appropriate behavior. Salem became a patient, well-mannered dog who listened reliably, giving her and her family a second chance at a happy life together.
What New Clients Can Expect
