Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Cleveland Dog Training Classes offers private, in-home training sessions tailored to the dog and family. The training is based on Karen Arnoff’s proprietary five-step “Arnoff Model” which involves diagnosing the problem’s cause, developing a comprehensive treatment plan, using appropriate positive methods, providing post-consult contact, and offering follow-up visits as needed. The goal is to establish leadership through non-verbal communication and teach self-control, ensuring the dog becomes a well-adjusted family pet.

About the Trainer

Karen Arnoff, owner of Cleveland Dog Training Classes (formerly The Dog Owner Connection), offers in-home dog training and behavior modification services. She helps dog owners prevent and correct a wide range of behavior problems, aiming to create “the dog you’ll love to live with.”

Her unique approach involves a five-step diagnostic model, the “Arnoff Model,” which thoroughly diagnoses the root causes of behavior problems, including genetic predisposition, leadership dynamics, canine learning, stimulation needs, and physiological factors. She emphasizes positive, non-aggressive training methods and works with families to ensure effective learning transfer in the dog’s home environment.

Karen also provides specialized services such as preparing dogs for new babies or other pets, addressing geriatric problems, and assisting with grooming and vet-visit behaviors. She is also an investigator and expert witness in legal cases involving dogs, particularly those related to aggression.

Accomplishments

Karen Arnoff has over 40 years of experience in dog training and behavior, starting as a teenager. She was mentored by William E. Campbell, author of early books on dog behavior, and became Cleveland’s first Dog Behavior Specialist. She is recognized by over 100 Cleveland area veterinarians who refer clients to her. She also serves as an investigator and expert witness in legal cases involving dogs.
