Basic Manners group class is a 5 week course, about one hour a week, that builds basic manners and practice around distractions for dogs with no reactivity or aggression. The Puppy class is for puppies 8 to 16 weeks old and covers sit, down, come when called, leash manners, nipping, mouthing, jumping up, house training, socialization, and gentling and handling. The Intermediate class is a 5 week course for dogs that passed Basic or have trained with Diann, and it includes field trips to new places.

Customized Private Lessons are one-on-one sessions that address behavior concerns and basic manners for all ages, including custom puppy packages. On The Town works on a dog’s fears, insecurities, and social needs in real-world settings, with or without the owner present. Board & Train is a customized program at Diann’s home away from home, with handler training included and 2 follow up sessions after the stay.

Diann also offers semi-private sessions, where two dogs train for the price of one. Day-camp training lets an owner leave their dog for a half or full day of private training, then walk through everything that was covered at pickup.

About the Trainer

Diann’s Happy Tails Dog Training offers group classes, private lessons, board and train, and public outing training for dog owners in La Pine and the surrounding Central Oregon area. Diann describes herself as a certified professional dog trainer with over 30 years of experience, and her motto is Pawsitive Training, Pawsitive Results.

She teaches owners to think like their dog, with a focus on communication, socialization, how dogs learn, and foundational cues. Training is science-based and built on positive reinforcement, and no pinch, shock, or choke chains are used.

The group class lineup covers puppies 8 to 16 weeks old, Basic Manners for dogs with no reactivity or aggression, and an Intermediate class that sometimes takes field trips to new places. Private lessons are customized to the dog and can be held at the client’s home, scheduled around the owner’s routine.

Private sessions handle issues like reactivity, excessive barking, resource guarding, jumping on guests, house soiling, pulling on leash, and not coming when called. Diann also offers custom puppy packages, an On The Town socialization program for fearful or insecure dogs, and a board and train program that includes handler training.

In Their Own Words

Their Training Philosophy

Training is not all about commands. When I train with clients & their dogs, I focus on keeping training fun & positive.

Pawsitive Training for Pawsitive Results. Training is designed to build the bond with the owner/family. Together we will build a bond that will last forever.

A Tough Case They Solved

A young male Lab that had not been socialized at all. He was reactive to everything in his world he didn’t know about. Taking him out of his house was a nightmare, one I can say was a huge challenge. His lunging and barking was enough to scare anyone, not to mention a challenge for me.

It took over 6 months, but now he is a happy Lab, able to go swimming around other people & dogs.

What New Clients Can Expect

The first lesson with a new client is always done at their home. I sit down with the owner/family and do an evaluation of the dog. Getting to know the family dynamics along with the dog helps me know them so we can all work together.

First session, I will get them started on some foundation skills to practice during the week. We will discuss the long range goals for the family & dog, and build a bond that will last a lifetime.
