About the Trainer
Off Leash K9 Training Austin and Central Texas is run by owners Matt and Jourdan, who first came to Off Leash K9 as clients with a rambunctious puppy. Matt went on to train for the Hampton Roads, Virginia location, then became head trainer and later owner of locations in California and Louisiana before the couple brought the program to Austin.
Training comes as in-home private lessons or a two-week board and train, with separate programs for dogs that react to other dogs and for therapy dog preparation. The team trains with an e-collar and leash, and puppies under five months start with clicker and treat work instead.
Matt and Jourdan see training as just as much for the owner as for the dog, so every program teaches families how to handle their dog and keep the skills sharp at home. Board and train clients get a two-hour, one-on-one handoff when their dog comes home.
The team serves Austin and nearby towns including Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Leander, and Lakeway.
Accomplishments
Matt trained and led Off Leash K9 locations in Virginia, California, and Louisiana before opening in Austin. The business is part of the national Off Leash K9 Training network.

In Their Own Words
Their Training Philosophy
I believe dogs learn best through clear communication, consistency, repetition, and training that carries over into everyday life. My goal is to help each dog understand what is expected while building reliable obedience around real-world distractions. I also believe training is just as important for the owner, which is why I focus on teaching families how to communicate with, handle, and reinforce their dog’s skills. Every dog is different, so I adjust the training approach to the dog’s behavior, needs, and progress while giving owners the tools to continue that work at home.
A Tough Case They Solved
One memorable dog was Toby, an adult mixed-breed dog who came into training with significant anxiety and insecurity after experiencing several changes in homes and routines. His behavior reportedly included barking, lunging, and biting, so the first priorities were safe handling, building trust, and establishing a foundation of obedience. During his 2 Week Board & Train, I worked on developing his responsiveness and helping him become more manageable while building a stronger working relationship with him. Toby’s case was especially rewarding because the focus was not simply on commands, but on giving him and his family a stronger foundation for safer, calmer everyday interactions.
What New Clients Can Expect
Your first step is a free phone consultation where we talk about your dog’s age, training history, behavior, and the goals you want to work toward. From there, we help you choose the training option that best fits your dog and schedule, including in-home private lessons or Board & Train. In-home lessons take place at your home, where you participate directly and learn how to work with your dog. Board & Train clients receive a two-hour one-on-one handoff after training to review the commands, equipment, and proper handling techniques. You leave with clear guidance on how to continue practicing and reinforcing your dog’s training at home.
