About the Trainer

Portsmouth Chesapeake Obedience Training Club, Inc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dog owners train their dogs to be well-mannered family members and a source of pride. The club has a rich history, originating from the Gosport Obedience Training Club formed in 1949, and was reorganized in 1964, with its current name approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1968.

The club has been hosting AKC licensed Obedience Trials yearly since 1973. Its members are diverse, owning various breeds, and many actively participate and compete in a wide range of dog sports including herding, field trials, hunt tests, lure coursing, conformation, tracking, flyball, agility, and obedience trials sanctioned by the AKC, UKC, and ASCA.

Beyond training and competition, the club is involved in community events, offering obedience demonstrations at local gatherings like the Suffolk Mutt Strut and Bark in the Park. Some members have earned Therapy Dog International (TDI) certificates, and their dogs visit local homes, retirement communities, and hospitals, providing public education in canine good citizenship.
