Star K9 offers structured agility and trick training programs divided into progressive levels: Puppy Basics, Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Beginning Intermediate, Intermediate, and Advanced Agility. Each level requires instructor approval to advance. Trick Dog training is also available, with certification pathways. Classes are held weekly, with flexible scheduling based on weather and season. Training focuses on obedience, obstacle navigation, distance handling, weave poles, and behavior reinforcement using positive methods.

Pricing & Policies

Pricing Summary

Group classes (4–6 students, 1 hour, 4 sessions) cost $180. Semi-private classes (2–3 students, 45 minutes, 4 sessions) are $55 per lesson. Private lessons (30 minutes) are $70 per session. Drop-in classes range from $50–$60 depending on skill level.

About the Trainer

Star K9 Agility and Training is a dog training center in Walnut Creek, CA, led by owner and master trainer Michelle Butler, who has been teaching since 2010. The center offers group and private agility, trick, and behavior training for dogs of all levels, from puppies to seniors. Training emphasizes positive reinforcement, play-based methods, and building a strong bond between dog and handler. Classes include Puppy Basics/Agility, Beginners Agility, Advanced Beginners, Beginning Intermediate, Intermediate, and Advanced Agility, as well as Trick Dog training. Val Williams and Jan Sanchez are certified instructors who also teach agility and tricks. The facility supports competition preparation and offers virtual agility trials. Dogs as young as 5 months can begin pre-agility training, with joint safety emphasized for puppies. The center promotes agility as a way to reduce boredom-related behavior problems and enhance confidence and communication.

In addition to agility, Star K9 offers trick dog certification training and behavior modification. The team includes certified Trick Dog Instructors and Animal Actor Evaluators. The facility hosts weekly classes, seasonal events like the July Fun Run and Bar-B-Que, and supports dogs up to 8–10 years of age. All training is conducted at their private facility in Walnut Creek.

Accomplishments

Michelle Butler, owner and master trainer, has won over 10 agility championships and was named Trainer of the Year – Trick Dog Instructor. Val Williams earned Trick Dog Champion Certification with her dog Kona. Jan Sanchez is a certified Trick Dog Instructor and Animal Actor Evaluator. The center is recognized for producing competitive dogs and hosting virtual agility trials.
