Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • ✓ Positive Reinforcement Only

Puppy Foundation Training and Socialization covers basic obedience, manners, mouthing management, and socialization for puppies up to four months old. Basic Training and Behavior Modification, for dogs four months and up, addresses obedience, recall, jumping, potty issues, barking, reactivity, and leash pulling, while a separate program focuses on dogs with aggression toward people or other dogs.

A Video-Chat Session is offered for mild behavior issues that can be worked through remotely, and a Training Consultation gives new clients a chance to discuss their dog’s behavior before booking a full program. Board-and-train combines personalized training with daily care while a dog stays with Carolyn.

Boarding options include Half-Day, Full-Day, and Daily/Overnight stays with indoor and outdoor time, rest, and enrichment in a home-based setting. Daycare Enrichment is a limited, drop-off program offered twice a week that mixes confidence-building exercises, leash manners, scent work, and obedience practice, with a progress report given at pickup.

Testimonials

“Prior to meeting with Carolyn, I was so discouraged and overwhelmed. Carolyn not only provides the training, but helps set up plans for continued training on your own, which provides you the tools necessary to succeed. Carolyn is no ‘dog whisperer.’ She’s an intelligent training professional who understands behavior causes-and-effects, as well as modifications needed. There are no gimmicks or tricks. Just science and knowledge.”
– Kaycee

“Rosco had no boundaries, did not have a good relationship with my 12 years old, and the cute puppy behavior became way too much. I reached out to Carolyn with Steady Paws, and she was our GOD SENT! The improvements we have seen across the board with Rosco’s behavior after just ONE session are phenomenal. I cannot express how thankful we are for Steady Paws helping us with Rosco’s behavior!”
– Danielle

“I love doing the classes and Beesly loves Carolyn and learning! She is very flexible and does whatever she can to help!!! I love telling my friends and family about our trainer!”
– Bre

About the Trainer

Steady Paws is a home-based dog training and boarding service serving South Central Kentucky from Glasgow. Owner Carolyn Bruce offers private, mobile training sessions along with in-home boarding and daycare enrichment for dogs of any breed.

Carolyn holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Murray State University and builds each plan around the individual dog rather than a one-size-fits-all method. Training relies on positive reinforcement, using the least intrusive approach that gets results while teaching owners the reasoning behind each step.

Services cover puppy foundation work for pups up to four months old, basic obedience and behavior modification for dogs four months and up, and specialized help for dogs with aggression toward people or other dogs. A video-chat option is available for milder issues that don’t need an in-person visit, and a training consultation lets new clients meet Carolyn and get a read on their dog before committing to a full program.

Rates are charged hourly rather than per dog, so households with more than one dog can work on training together in the same session. Clients have described sessions built on real understanding of dog behavior rather than gimmicks, with clear plans for continuing the work at home between visits.

Steady Paws is based in Glasgow but also travels regularly to Murray, Paducah, and Madisonville for training sessions, along with offering board-and-train, boarding, and daycare enrichment out of Carolyn’s home.
